Finn Mitchell: Inspiration to Others Award
A “courageous” youngster from Four Lanes has been recognised as an ‘Inspiration To Others’ at Pirate FM’s Local Heroes Awards in association with South West Bottled Gas.
Seven-year-old Finn Mitchell is winner of the ‘Inspiration to others’ award sponsored by Holywell Bay Funpark. He was nominated by his mother Nat, who said that he dedicates himself to helping poorly and life-limited children in Cornwall – despite being poorly himself.
“Finn is an inspiration, he is the funniest, kindest person I know.” said Nat.
“Two years ago he nearly died, after a fight he had with a MRI scan and was immediately rushed to hospital. Our lives fell apart that day we were told Finn had a brain tumour, Finn was just five years old”.
Nat continued: “The next few months saw Finn make a ground-breaking recovery, and was inspired to set up ‘Finnsarmy’ – which has given children the chance to just be kids within a tough hospital environment.”
Despite battling with his with his own tumour, Finn has remained an inspiration to others around him by providing positive messages to those young people going through the same situation.
Thanks to Finn’s determination there are now 8 iPad mini lending libraries in hospitals and outreach centres across Cornwall.
Nat said: “He has rallied our community. He fights to live, but he never complains.
“Every day with him is a gift and every day because of him we have happier kids in our hospitals and communities.
“Finn is courageous, Finn is a warrior, Finn has changed a little part of this world. He’s come so far and it’s been all his determination. He’s never given up”.
