Rob Hosking - Emergency Services Award

A Redruth Firefighter has been recognised for almost 30 years of service at Pirate FM’s Local Heroes awards in association with Truro and Penwith College, held at the Tregenna Castle Resort in St Ives on Friday Night.

Rob Hosking was presented with the award, sponsored by Sims Metal Management.

As a fire-fighter, Rob Hosking has been keeping the people of Cornwall and his home town Redruth safe for almost thirty years.

He’s was nominated by his son, Rob Junior, for responding to thousands of emergency calls at any time of the day or night.

His call-outs vary – anything from a cat stuck up a tree to a serious crash. He was on duty during the Falmouth Hotel fire and plucked people to safety when the flash floods hit Boscastle.

On top of that, Rob organises community safety events like children’s visits, trains new recruits and raises money for charity.

Rob Hosking’s Nomination from Rob Hosking (Junior)

I wish to nominate my father, who for close to 30 years, has helped to keep the public of Cornwall, especially Redruth, safe.

As a Fire Fighter, Leading Fire Fighter and now Watch Manager, he has responded to thousands of emergency calls, at any time, day or night. These have ranged from your cat up a tree, to more serious incidents, such as, road traffic collisions or property fires, with persons trapped inside. He has also attended many large scale incidents, including, the Boscastle floods, the Falmouth beach resort hotel, the gorse fires of Zennor, which took almost a week to extinguish & numerous other incidents.

On top of this, he has overseen and organised many community safety events, from children’s visits to the fire station, home fire safety checks for vulnerable groups, fire station open days, charity car washes and much more.
He has also been responsible for the pre learning and training of new recruits, who he mentors through a 4 week training programme, prior to them attending a training course at the fire service training centre.

These are just a few of the reasons why I am nominating this person, and I could go on forever, with the positive things that he has done and the the thousands of people he has assisted in their time of need.

Now it’s time that he gets some much deserved recognition.
