Employer Of The Year - Angela Palin
A South-East Cornwall Headteacher has been named employer of the year, at Pirate FM’s Local Heroes awards in association with Truro and Penwith College, held at the Tregenna Castle Resort in St Ives on Friday Night.
The award was presented to Angela Palin, and was sponsored by Nursefinders.
Angela Palin from Fowey is Headteacher across two primary schools in south-east Cornwall and is described in her nomination as a phenomenal role model and someone who goes far beyond the call of duty.
It came from colleague Brenda Welch – on behalf of everyone at St Mellion and St Dominic. Angela’s helped secure the schools good and outstanding Ofsted reports and put St Mellion in the top hundred schools in the UK.
Her staff say she motivates them to climb the career ladder and always has a ‘cunning plan’ when things go wrong. Angela retires next year.
Angela Palin’s Nomination from Brenda Welch
As Executive Headteacher across two rural federated primary schools, we think Angela Palin is an extraordinary employer. She gives her time, energy and soul to everything she does and the working environment she has created is happy and supportive. All staff members know that we are considered to be valued members of the team: listened to, understood, mentored, and supported, far beyond the call of duty.
As a leader, Angela has the unique ability to let you know you’re doing really well, while inspiring you to do even better! She has a gift for recognising skills that sometimes we may not have identified. She helps us develop knowledge and interests, and supports us individually as we progress up the ladders of our own careers. She has various staff members who have worked throughout the county (and the country) to lead curriculum visions, moderate school assessments, and manage youth music initiatives; all of which we could not have achieved without her insight, support and vision. She leads by example, and we learn from her all the time.
Angela has a relentless commitment her two schools; managing two lots of everything and demonstrating total commitment to both. She’s raised standards across the Federation to achieve good and outstanding Ofsted inspections. She won the national Head Teacher of the Year, award a few years ago, and St Mellion’s results (2014) put us in the top five of Cornish Schools (top 100 nationally).
We all benefit from working with Angela: parents want their children to come to our schools, children enjoy their learning, staff feel inspired to teach, and the governors recognise the school is being well lead.
Angela retires later this year and will be sorely missed by everyone. However she will always be a phenomenal role-model for us all.
